A Torque Meter for External Winding

External link opens in new tab or window

This is a torque meter for use when winding a rubber motor outside the model. It complements the winding stooge that is presented on the Free Flight page.

The goal of the design is to reduce the length of the torsion wire element, and to remove the pull strain on the torsion wire element that is associated with in-line torque meters.

The torque meter is made up from 3D printed parts. It can be set up for a wide variety of torque ranges. The torque wire assembly is interchangeable so the core meter can be used for multiple torque ranges. An option is also provided that allows the motor to be wound in either the clockwise or counter clockwise rotation. This facilitates winding motors for multi motor models, or for pusher setups.  Presented here are the files for 3D printing the parts, an assembly guide, and the parameters for setting up the torque meter for different torque range values.
